Media and communications intern

JOB PURPOSE
The media and communications intern supports the media and communications officer by assisting with tasks like drafting materials, media monitoring, monitoring human rights developments, conducting research, providing logistical support for events and administrative duties.
about you
As a Media and Communications Intern, you will have recently graduated with a degree in journalism or communications, and have strong writing, editing and research skills.Â
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in writing press releases, media quotes, opinion pieces, and other content.
- Track news stories relevant to the organisation’s work and compile a daily report.
- Stay informed about current human rights issues.
- Support the development of media strategies and campaigns through background research on topics.
- Support the development of documentaries and AV material.
- Assist in planning and organising media or public events, including press briefings and media launches.
- Help with database updates, contact lists, scheduling, and general support.
- Help maintain relationships with journalists and prepare media materials.
- The Intern will also be required to perform other tasks as appropriate.

JOB PURPOSE
Amnesty International South Africa is looking for a self-motivated, independent person at the start of their career to help us achieve excellence in NGO governance. Candidates should be committed to Amnesty International’s values and goals, and have a demonstrable history of activism in areas related to Amnesty’s work.
The fellowship will run for up to 12 months from the start of January 2026 until the end of November 2026.
about you
As a Graduate Fellow, you will hold a law degree (LL.B. or equivalent) or any related degree, and fluency in two South African languages is recommended.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Researching and drafting Amnesty’s governance and other documents;
- Contributing to discussions around AISA’s national and international governance policy positions;Â
- Assist the National Secretariat in its research, advocacy and campaigning work;
- Prepare and provide detailed minutes and or reports from relevant AISA board meetings and related;
- Applicable administrative support, where required.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Ability to write clearly and concisely (without the need for significant editorial revision) and to proof-read policy, research, campaign and advocacy materials – often under tight timeframes;
- Ability to interact with staff at all levels, and communicate clearly and concisely with colleagues;
- Ability to gather and process large amounts of legal and governance information;
- Ability to make presentations;
- Ability to accurately analyse issues and apply systematic reasoning to formulate a response;
- Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and work self-sufficiently with some guidance
