Failing to learn the lessons: The impact of COVID-19 on a broken and unequal education system examines the consequences for the right to education during South Africa’s lockdown period, with a particular focus on Gauteng, Eastern Cape and Limpopo. Many learners struggled to access any education during this period, including through remote learning.  The report details some of the key challenges that are hindering the ability of South Africa to comply with its right to education obligations in the context of COVID-19.
