Access to basic services in South Africa is largely still marred by a legacy of segregation developed under the apartheid regime, and the lack of political will from current leaders to transform the system into one that works for, and services all.
The mismanagement of public funds at all levels of government means the necessary investment to ensure the equitable delivery of basic services has instead been lost to corruption and a lack of accountability and transparency. This has further crippled the system and has meant millions of people in South Africa do not have access to basic services, such as safe, sufficient, and reliable water, basic sanitation, and adequate housing.
Access to quality, timely and progressive service delivery are the fundamental building blocks to an improved quality of life.
